5 Gas Saving Tips
With everyone trying to save a buck and the price of gas not going down much in the near future, here are five simple tips to help you get the most out of your gas money:
- Don’t buy premium if you don’t need to. Check your owners manual, you may be surprised to find out the manufacturer recommends a lower octane than you think!
- Group and schedule your errands together. If you drop your kids off at school in the morning why not pick up your dry cleaning and hit the market on the way home instead of making a separate trips later?
- No junk in the trunk! The heavier your car weighs, the more gas it consumes. Keep your trunk and backseat free of unneeded items and extra weight.
- Slow down and drive at a steady speed. The faster you speed the fewer MPG you’ll get. Also keeping a steady speed with less quick starts or hard braking will burn less fuel than you need to.
- Check tire inflation. Under-inflated tires cause more drag and burn more fuel than properly inflated ones.
- Only use the AC on the highway. At slower speeds around town it’s more fuel efficient to leave the windows down and the AC off. Once you get on the highway and speeds reach 50mph it’s actually MORE fuel efficient to roll the windows up and use the AC as the open windows cause more drag.
Nothing earth-shattering, just some simple things that can add up to a few more bucks in your pocket instead of the pump.
