Clay Your Car For a Smooth Surface

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Ever wonder why your car’s finish never feels as silky smooth as it did when you first drove it off the lot? It doesn’t take long for your paint, which once felt as smooth as glass, to feel like sandpaper with all kinds of little bumps and specs stuck to it -these are pollutants and contaminants your paint picks up from the road and the environment and they don’t come off when you simply wash your car.

This is where detail clay comes in – yes, it actually is clay!

Detail clay is perhaps one of the most innovative and effective product introductions to the car care industry. Invented in Japan in the late 1980’s, Automotive Detail Clay is a paint cleaning system designed to safely and effectively remove bonded surface contamination that is not removed with your normal car wash procedure.

For those who have never done it, rubbing a detail clay bar on your car does sound a little strange but it is actually very effective, quick, super easy and extremely safe! If you have never clayed your paint you will see what you have been missing within the first few passes with the clay bar.

Our friends over at Autopia have a great article titled: How To Detail Clay Your Car

5 Gas Saving Tips

Friday, November 13th, 2009

With everyone trying to save a buck and the price of gas not going down much in the near future, here are five simple tips to help you get the most out of your gas money:

  1. Don’t buy premium if you don’t need to. Check your owners manual, you may be surprised to find out the manufacturer recommends a lower octane than you think!
  2. Group and schedule your errands together. If you drop your kids off at school in the morning why not pick up your dry cleaning and hit the market on the way home instead of making a separate trips later?
  3. No junk in the trunk! The heavier your car weighs, the more gas it consumes. Keep your trunk and backseat free of unneeded items and extra weight.
  4. Slow down and drive at a steady speed. The faster you speed the fewer MPG you’ll get. Also keeping a steady speed with less quick starts or hard braking will burn less fuel than you need to.
  5. Check tire inflation. Under-inflated tires cause more drag and burn more fuel than properly inflated ones.
  6. Only use the AC on the highway. At slower speeds around town it’s more fuel efficient to leave the windows down and the AC off. Once you get on the highway and speeds reach 50mph it’s actually MORE fuel efficient to roll the windows up and use the AC as the open windows cause more drag.

Nothing earth-shattering, just some simple things that can add up to a few more bucks in your pocket instead of the pump.  :-)

Green Tip for Your Car

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

We here at Buy-Hawaiian-Seat-Covers just came across this green tip for your auto that we thought we’d pass along:

Did you know that getting your car washed at a commercial car wash is better for the environment than washing your car yourself?

Yep – apparently commercial car washes not only use a lot less water than you would at home, but many also recycle and reuse the rinse water. If every American who normally washes their own car went to a commercial car wash just ONCE, almost 8.7 BILLION gallons of water could be saved – WOW!

So next Wednesday when it’s Ladies Day at your local car wash, instead of getting that mani/pedi, treat yourself to a sparkling clean car… both you AND your hubby will be happy.  :-)

Car Care Tips: Washing Your Car

Monday, June 15th, 2009

What’s one of the easiest, yet most important things you can do for your car?

Wash it regularly! Keeping your car clean will protect and extend the life and beauty of it’s finish.

Removing dirt and road debris means more than just the occasional hosing off – it means getting a good quality mitt or sponge along with a good quality shampoo. Gone are the days when a rag and some dish soap were car washing staples. These days that rag will scratch your paint and dish soap will dull and actually remove your paint’s finish causing early oxidation.

Our friends over at Autopia have a complete ‘How-To Guide for Washing and Drying Your Car‘ that’s worth checking out.

Of course, once you get the outside looking good you know we suggest a pair of our Hawaiian seat covers to beautify and protect your car’s interior.  :-)

Affordable Ways to Protect Your Car’s Interior

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

So, you’ve plunked down some cash and bought yourself a car. Now it’s time to take a few easy steps to help protect the interior and your investment.

One of the most inexpensive auto accessories you can buy is a simple window shade for the inside of the windshield. Folding or collapsing window shades come in many sizes and shapes as well as colors and patterns so you can find one to match or compliment your interior.

Unlike window tinting, these types of window shades are not attached to the window so they are portable and need no installation. They will provide shade for your dashboard and steering wheel thus protecting your dashboard from cracking as well as keeping your interior a bit cooler.

Another inexpensive way to protect your car’s interior is with floor mats.  Like window shades, floor mats also come in many colors and designs so you’re sure to find a pair that suits your taste.

They can play a crucial role in the maintenance of your car’s interior by keeping the carpeting of you car clean and free from all the mud, dirt and oil stains tracked in on the feet of you and your passengers.

Floor mats also come in a variety of materials, from carpet to rubber and vinyl. These days you can even find your favorite car logo or cartoon characters printed on them.

Lastly, investing in an affordable seat covers is a must-do.

If your car is new, using car seat covers keeps you free from having to worry about stains, rips or scratches in your upholstery.

If your car is a bit older, a new pair of seat covers can make your car look like it has new seats. They can brighten up your car while covering any defects like torn or shabby looking seats.

If you taxi around kids or pets a set of car seat covers will give you peace of mind. If anyone has an accident or spills a juice box on your seats you can either wash them or quickly and easily get a new pair.

Of course we’re partial to Hawaiian print auto seat covers and no matter what the model or color of your car, you’re sure to find seat covers you’ll enjoy at our website: Buy-Hawaiian-Seat-Covers.com

You can easily protect your new investment or spruce up an old jalopy with any or all of these affordable accessories for your car.
