Bamboo Surf Fins

Monday, May 10th, 2010

We know that many of our customers here at Buy Hawaiian Seat Covers are also surfers, so we thought we’d pass along an interesting product we came across: bamboo fins.

They’re not only a ‘green’, sustainable wood but apparently they’re awesome to ride – super light, yet strong. The tip has a slight flex, yet the body of the fin is quite rigid. All of the elements for a high performance center fin to fit your stick. Plus they’re beautiful to look at.

So go green when you get wet and try out some bamboo surfing fins.  :-)

Still No Surf for the Women on Maui

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Organizers of the Women’s Billabong Pro Maui had to call off the competition again today as Honolua Bay is refusing to serve up swell for the ladies to compete on.

This is the 5th straight lay day and the girls are getting antsy so they traded their surfboards for snorkel gear and got in some water time UNDER the waves today.

They will try it again tomorrow but really aren’t expecting any swell to arrive until the end of this week – so check back and we’ll keep you posted!

Girls Get Rest at Billabong Pro on Maui

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Following yesterday’s full serving of action, Honolua Bay has gone quiet today, prompting event organizers to call a lay day for the Billabong Pro Maui.

The final stop of the 2008 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Billabong Pro Maui saw the Quarterfinalists decided yesterday in pristine conditions, but today’s one-to-two foot (0.5 metre) waves were not up to the task of crowning a 2008 event champion.

“We were hoping yesterday’s swell would hang around long enough this morning to finish the event, but that hasn’t happened,” Dino Andino, Billabong Pro Maui Contest Director, said. “There are little pulses coming over the next few days so we’ll keep a close eye on swell direction and winds. Hopefully we can finish up in conditions similar to yesterday.”

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am for a possible 7:30am start.

The waiting period for the Billabong Pro Maui will run through December 20, 2008.

The Billabong Pro Maui will be webcast LIVE via www.billabongpro.com

Surfrider Foundation – Long Beach Chapter Meeting

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Just a reminder that tonight the Long Beach, CA Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will host a special evening with Surfline Forecasters who will discuss the basics of wave formation, what swells and wind conditions are best for the surrounding area and can also certainly throw in some info on what the surf would be like if the breakwater was no longer there.

So if you’ve ever wondered what it takes to forecast our great waves here in Southern California, here is your chance to learn and ask as many questions as you’d like.

The meeting will start at 7pm and will be located in the downstairs portion of the Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Marina Pacifica Mall (near 2nd Street PCH).

Xcel Pro Surf Contest in Hawaii

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Speaking of Hawaii… this week the Xcel Pro surfing contest is happening in the Rainbow State at it’s world famous Sunset Beach!!!

A north swell is producing 8-10′ waves and light offshore tradewinds are keeping conditions perfect.

The 2007 winner, Joel Centeio, (pictured above), advanced one step closer to taking the title again, posting the day’s best-scored wave: a 9.50 after a big turn and stall into one of today’s barrels.

“I was ecstatic,” Centeio said. “I just want to stay busy, ride waves, and keep making heats.”

19th Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic This Weekend

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Hey all you Gidgets and Moondoggies – it’s time to wax down your boards and throw on your swimsuits and rash guards because it’s time for the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association’s (DLSA) annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau!!

The big shindig will be held this Saturday, September 20th, at legendary Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, California.

“Down at Doheny where the surfers all go…” is a famous line from the Surfaris’ tune about the surfing lifestyle. Nothing could be more true than this Saturday when the 19th Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic features a classic longboard surf contest, a traditional Luau with Polynesian dancing and a live band.

The event honors one of the most famous surfers and surfboard shapers of all time, Dale Velzy. DLSA has had the honor of producing this venue for 19 years and has continued its homage to Dale Velzy since he passed away in 2005.

This event is open to the public and is for all surfers who enjoy the same things that Dale enjoyed; having fun with friends and family. It is in this spirit that DLSA holds this annual event so that everyone can enjoy the surf contest, luau, dancing under the stars and having a great time at Doheny.

The event kicks off with the surf contest at 6:30 a.m. The Luau festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. followed closely by the Polynesian review, awards ceremony, raffles and then on to the dancing. It¹s great fun for everyone.
